Zambia’s Ambassador to Sweden, Gladys Neven Lundwe called upon the Zambian diaspora living in the Nordic and Baltic region to continue working together to enhance unity and to contribute to the socio-economic development of Zambia.

Ambassador Lundwe said this when she officiated at Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary under the theme “60 Years Strong: Honoring Our Heritage, Embracing Our Future”. The Ambassador noted that Zambia was celebrating its 60th Independence Anniversary and at the same time was honouring Zambia’s founding father, Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda who would have celebrated his 100years birthday on 28th April 2024.

She reminded the Zambians of the vital role that Dr. Kaunda’s vision, leadership, dedication to Zambia played in shaping the nation’s history and paving the way for future generations. She acknowledged that there was no better theme for this year’s Independence Anniversary than this year’s theme which reminded Zambians to never lose sight of where the country was coming from and the values that were inculcated by our forefathers that we are one nation and should continue to exist as such, regardless of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

She noted that the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto was crafted by our forefathers for the purpose of uniting the country. She called on all the Zambians in the diaspora to use this year´s theme to conduct self- introspections for the betterment of Zambia.

She reminded the Zambian diaspora living in Sweden and all countries of extra accreditation that the Embassy in Stockholm existed to work with the diaspora and countries of accreditation to promote socio-economic development, and above all to protect the image and interests of Zambia.
