The Coronavirus pandemic is an unprecedented situation across the world, and the Nordic and Baltic regions have not been spared. I know this is a worrying and difficult time for many of you, us inclusive. What we are facing is the most serious global public health emergency since the end of World War II. Catching the world by surprise, COVID-19 has hit over 210 countries and regions, affected more than seven billion people around the world and claimed over 300,000 precious lives.

As you know, Governments in these regions introduced measures to limit the spread of the virus ranging from total lock downs to restrictions on how we socialise. You may also be aware that some countries have started relaxing these measures. Even with this, we urge you to adhere to the guidance that respective countries are providing.

During this whole period, the Embassy has kept the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lusaka informed about the situation in the two regions.

The Embassy will continue to actively monitor developments, particularly on how Zambian nationals could be negatively affected in this situation.

I wish to, therefore, re-emphasise on the need for all Zambians to register with the Embassy so that it is easier for us to find you whenever need arises.

The Embassy remains operational, and we shall endeavour to do everything possible within our powers to render the support that may be needed to our nationals. However, please note that with the current restrictions, it is not possible to visit the Embassy premises. In this regard, you are advised to visit the Embassy website: www.zambiaembassy.se for information on how you can reach us.

And in order for you to have accurate information of what is happening in Zambia in relation to the Coronavirus situation, I wish to advise that you visit the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs websites: https://www.moh.gov.zm/  and https://www.mofa.gov.zm/ , respectively.

I would also like to thank you for your continued support and express confidence that we will soon leave this dark period behind us.

I wish you well and God’s blessings!

Rose M. Salukatula

Zambia’s Ambassador to the Nordic and Baltic regions
